What cars drive in the European Union?

trucks in Europe

At the end of 2021, there were about 250 million passenger cars, 29.5 million vans, 6.4 million trucks and 0.7 million buses in the European Union, according to the ACEA report “Vehicles in use, Europe 2023”. What else can you learn from it?

There are more and more cars in Europe. In the last 5 years, their number has increased by 18 million. What is equally important – the dynamics of this growth remains at a constant level. In large numbers, the problems with the supply of new vehicles that have recently affected our continent are practically imperceptible.

HOW OLD ARE CARS DRIVING THROUGH EUROPE?

For both cars and vans, the average age is currently 12 years. Buses are slightly older – 12.7 years, and trucks are clearly older – 14.2 years. Interestingly, while in the case of passenger cars, vans and buses, Poland scores worse than the European average (14, 14.5 and 16 years, respectively), but in the case of trucks we perform better (13.1 years).

Of course, we are far from the average recorded in the richest countries of the community. For Austria it is 6.6 years, Denmark – 7.5 years and Luxembourg – 7.7 years. At the other extreme are Greece, Italy and Romania with an average of 22.7, 19 and 18.6 years, respectively.

It is also worth noting that Poland is the European leader when it comes to the number of trucks. At the end of 2021, there were 1.234 million of them in our country, which is more than a quarter more than in Germany, which is ranked second.

The fact that Poles drive passenger cars that are older than the European average, but have a younger than average truck fleet, shows the strength of road transport of goods in our country. We are the ones who set trends and directions of development in the industry across the continent.

HOW DO WE PERFORM AGAINST THE EUROPEAN AVERAGE?

How does it compare to the European average VEGA? Our fleet is definitely younger than the European average or even the results achieved by the most economically developed countries of the community. The average age of vehicles in our company’s colours is less than 2 years. We focus on cars that are fully operational, meet the most stringent emission standards and are simply economical in operation.

If you already use our services, you know that the reliability and economy of our fleet translates into the rates we are able to offer you. We will not only transport your cargo safely and on time, but we will also do it at a really good price.

We also focus on ecology – the emission of our cars is clearly lower than the average in even the most developed EU countries, we have given up paper documents (their circulation takes place fully electronically) and we are working on launching test routes of electric trucks between logistics hubs in regions: Warsaw – Berlin (600 km), Stuttgart-Berlin (650 km), Stuttgart – Zurich (250 km) and Stuttgart – Innsbruck (350 km).

This is important because, as the ACEA report shows, only 0.1% of trucks in the European Union are equipped with a battery-electric drive system, and in Poland this indicator is currently 0.00%.
