What kind of transport services do you need?

MAN - fleet - transport services

Nobody is perfect at everything. Therefore, sometimes it is worth entrusting one area of transport to specialists in a given field, and the other – to others. Or maybe it’s better to have all services related to transport in one place?

– Transport is transport and there is nothing to argue when it arrives on time, someone will say. The problem, however, is that not always a company that perfectly fulfills its tasks in one area will turn out to be equally effective in another. It requires different competences.

TYPES OF TRANSPORT SERVICES

The division of transport due to the route it takes seems obvious. The sea carrier will not necessarily turn out to be the best partner for road transport, and the airline – for rail transport. Of course, you can find companies that organise multimodal transport from A to Z, but when we use only one means of transport, it is usually more profitable to cooperate with entities specialised in a given field.

However, this general rule works at an even more detailed level when we divide transport into further subgroups:

Full truckload transport

The market here is relatively large and it seems that it is easy to find a company that will transport cargo cheaply. Unfortunately, sometimes it turns out that by limiting the price to a minimum, we increase the risk that our cargo will not arrive on time or will reach the recipient not necessarily in the condition we expected.

Groupage transport

At a time when many companies are switching to lean production or just-in-time logistics, it is increasingly necessary to deliver a shipment that does not occupy the entire semi-trailer of a truck. In such a situation, it is worth finding a partner who has experience in transport in a given direction and is able to quickly collect more transports on this route to reduce “empty journeys”.

Oversized transport

The transport of exceptionally large loads is regulated by separate regulations and requires prior notification, planning and appropriate assistance and marking. Otherwise, it may turn out that the load gets stuck on the way, which will prolong the entire process and significantly increase its costs or we will be exposed to penalties.

Transport of dangerous substances (ADR)

Loads that could be harmful to the environment or dangerous to the environment require compliance with ADR procedures during transport. Our company specialises in this type of transport, and you can read more about them in one of our previous blog entries.

Transportation of waste

Legally, waste is understood as any substance or object that the holder discards, intends to dispose of or is required to dispose of. This transport, especially abroad, is regulated by very detailed regulations and not everyone can do it. VEGA has the appropriate permits. What exactly? We’ve covered this before on our blog.

Long haulage

This is a special type of transport, where the loads are usually thin and long enough (wood, pipes, rods, etc.) to require the use of special long trailers. In the case of parcel shipments, each long parcel will be understood as a long parcel (the qualifying dimensions are determined by each courier company), however, in this text we focus on B2B transport.

SPECIALISATION OR COORDINATION?

As you can see, the range of transport services is wide, and we have not listed all of them. Is it worth having one transport company that will take care of everything in such a situation? The answer is, as usual, complex.

A single transport company is not able to obtain a high level of specialisation in all services. Although we are great at pallet, full truck, ADR or waste transport, we do not even try to conquer the market of oversized or long transport. Sometimes, however, our clients consciously commission us to coordinate transports outsourced to subcontractors. Why? Because they know that by paying us a bit more for transport, they gain our control over it and … peace of mind!
