There are many indications that difficult times are ahead of the European and World economy. High inflation and the economic slowdown may make more people wonder about a career as a professional driver in international transport. Is it worth it?
A driver’s job is not a piece of cake. Not everyone has the courage to take responsibility for 40 tons (the weight of the truck, trailer and cargo) accelerated on the motorway up to 100 km per hour. Not everyone is also ready to leave the family for a week or two and see their loved ones only online during that time.
No wonder that drivers are scarce all over the world. According to the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the number of unfilled driver positions in Europe increased by 42% year on year. This means that in Poland alone, about 80,000 drivers are currently missing! Let us emphasize that we are talking about data from before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine – now it will probably be even more.
DECENT MONEY
If we stopped at what we have already written, you might think that it is not worth being a professional driver. Meanwhile, we hear from many of our employees that they cannot imagine a different path and do not even regret choosing it for a moment.
Why? Mainly, it is because of the salary. As a truck driver, you can earn a lot of money and secure the fate of your family. Of course, not every company is rosy, but the constant shortage of drivers on the market means that a good driver can count on his work will be respected and properly rewarded. After all he can look for a job with the competition, if necessary.
Sure, you’ll earn more the more you ride, but the days of bending the rules are over. Due to the current technical and legal solutions, it is no longer profitable to drive at the risk limit. So you can be sure that no one will require you to break the rules and put your own and others’ lives at stake, just to earn a little more.
SECURITY
A good driver is first and foremost a safe driver, but the work of a driver also has another aspect. It allows you to protect yourself against fluctuations in the labor market. What happened when the forests were closed after the COVID-19 pandemic? Professional drivers traveled normally across the continent and… earned their living for their family.
Working in international transport, you are not afraid of economic troubles in the country where you live, because your work depends on the situation across the continent. And the possibility that all of Europe will suddenly fall into a deep crisis is clearly less than that of a single country.
FREEDOM
The driver’s job is also often chosen by people who value freedom. 8 hours in the office or factory are not for you? Do you prefer independence? It’s not an easy life, but most drivers fall in love with it at first sight. It is impossible to describe the satisfaction that comes from traveling further kilometers across Europe to deliver the cargo on time. You have to feel it yourself!
So if your job situation starts to seem insecure, or you just feel that it’s time to change something in your life, think about choosing a career as a professional driver. We are not saying that it will always be easy and fun, but this job guarantees freedom, security, decent money and enormous satisfaction.
